Culvert Replacement on Griffin Line Central New England Railroad
over Filley Brook, Bloomfield, CT

In late March of 2015, VMS was contacted by CT DOT to perform an Emergency Declaration Project to provide temporary and permanent Culvert repairs to an existing collapsed 48" CMP and a 5' x 5' Stone Culvert. All soils on site were to be handled as contaminated.

By combining precast segments with cast-in-place construction, VMS Construction successfully installed and backfilled three parallel 72" RCP pipes with headwalls during the mandated Railroad weekend shutdown period, working around the clock from Thursday to Sunday night. Tracks were re-installed Monday and re-opened to rail traffic. Remaining rip rap channels, cast-in-place work, safety railings and all final restoration work was completed over the following two weeks.
